Issues that our Advocacy Department tackles include the Americans with Disabilities Act, fair housing laws, Social Security, access to polls and public transportation and employment rights.

Handicapped Parking Abuse

 

Parking abuse exists in two primary forms: obviously, the first is when a person who does not have a disability parks in a handicap space. The second is when placards are loaned out to individuals that are not disabled.

 

House Repeals CLASS Long-Term Care Program

 

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to repeal the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) program—without offering any alternative to address the long-term care concerns of many Americans.

 

Affordable Care Act (ACA) Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan Changes

 

Getting health coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions is now a lot easier—and  in some cases, more affordable—thanks to recent changes to the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP).  On May 31, 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released new eligibility standards for the PCIP, created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), that will go into effect on July 1, 2011..

Through Paralyzed Veterans of America's Advocacy Program, Paralyzed Veterans offers up-to-date disability rights information and resources on this website. Paralyzed Veterans further advocates for people living with SCI/D through speaking out on Capitol Hill and by working with federal agencies such as the Department of Justice to see that nondiscrimination laws are implemented and enforced.
