PAVE Graduate David Padilla Speaks at Joining Forces White House Event

Padilla attends event with his employer -- longtime Paralyzed Veterans’ Supporter UPS

National President Bill Lawson visits UPS in April 2013 and talks with David Padilla, UPS executives
David Padilla, a Navy veteran who found employment with UPS, through Paralyzed Veterans of America’s PAVE program (Paving Access for Veterans Employment), will be speaking at The White House Joining Forces press conference this morning alongside President Obama, Vice President Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, as they are set to make a significant employment announcement for veterans and military spouses.

“We congratulate David for this tremendous opportunity to share his story with other veterans who are struggling to find work,” said Bill Lawson, national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “David is just one of hundreds of veterans that we’ve helped find employment through our PAVE program, and we hope to continue on this positive track of helping to get our nation’s unemployed veterans back to work.”

Padilla first connected with Paralyzed Veterans’ PAVE program, during a chance meeting with a PAVE counselor in an elevator at the Boston VA hospital, who happened to be working a career fair that day. David began working with the counselor who after two months helped him secure an interview with UPS. Padilla was eventually hired by UPS and began working as a part-time supervisor in August 2012. He was offered a full-time dispatch supervisor position in January 2013.

UPS has been a supporter of Paralyzed Veterans of America initiatives for more than 25 years. In March, the company announced its commitment to hire more than 25,000 veterans over the next five years.

“We encourage all veterans who are struggling to find work to contact one of our PAVE regional offices and work with our counselors,” added Lawson. “We stand ready to serve all veterans and their families.”
