Career Assistance Program Receives Don Weber Wounded Warrior Employment Award
Washington, DC—Paralyzed Veterans of America’s (Paralyzed Veterans) career assistance program, Operation PAVE (Paving Access for Veterans Employment), has been awarded the Don Weber Wounded Warrior Employment Award for “demonstrated leadership in addressing the unique challenges and demands for wounded warriors, spouses and caregivers in search of meaningful employment.” The award was presented to Paralyzed Veterans last night at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes awards ceremony.
“This award is even more meaningful coming from the Chamber, as its Hiring Our Heroes initiative has helped make hiring veterans a national priority. This spotlight on veterans employment programs enables all of us to reach more veterans and their families and make a significant impact in their lives,” said Sherman Gillums, associate executive director of Veterans Benefits and director of the Operation PAVE program for Paralyzed Veterans. “While our program will help any veteran find a job, our mission from day one has been to assist those hardest-to-place veterans in finding meaningful careers.”
Operation PAVE was one of three finalists chosen in its category and was selected by the Hiring Our Heroes Awards Committee as the winner.

The Hiring Our Heroes Don Weber award recognizes Operation PAVE for its past, present, and future efforts to serve those who served.”
Operation PAVE is a free program operated by Paralyzed Veterans of America, offering one-on-one employment counseling and benefits support to any veteran and his or her family—but is uniquely positioned to help veterans with the most complex needs. Through a public-private partnership, PAVE counselors work in offices located at Veterans Affairs medical centers around the country.
PAVE counselors become “partners for life” so veterans have a personal advocate to help them navigate the complex journey from active duty or injury to civilian employment.
