King of the Road Charity Ride Supports Paralyzed Veterans
A downpour of autumn rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of participants in the first-ever King of the Road Charity Ride. Eager riders joined NASCAR great, “The King,” Richard Petty, who kicked off the fundraiser October 24 in Level Cross, NC, home of Petty Enterprises (and sponsor of the event).
After a lunch sponsored by Hutchinson Wealth Management Group and hosted by Petty, 30 riders traversed the Piedmont triad of North Carolina, taking in spectacular views while raising funds to support veterans. They stopped at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC, where they were eagerly greeted by the servicemen and -women being treated at the center. The final stop for the event was Statesville, NC, new home of Richard Petty Motorsports.
“I really have a passion for motorcycles,” Petty said. “A lot of people may not know that, so this is a perfect fit for me. We’re going to have a lot of fun.”
Besides raising $4,000, Petty hopes the Charity Ride will make “people pause and think about how important PVA is to a lot of people in this country.”
All proceeds from the Charity Ride benefited Paralyzed Veterans of America and supports our work to help veterans with spinal cord injuries rebuild their lives.
