Membership

Connect with a community of veterans committed to supporting one another.

Paralyzed Veterans of America is a member-based organization that is committed to the needs of all our members – as well as all people with disabilities. When you become a member of Paralyzed Veterans, you join a community of over 19,000 people that share your interests, your needs and concerns about living with spinal cord injury and disease.

Living with SC/I can be a daily challenge. But you are greater than your injury or disease. As part of our community, you have access to a supportive network of volunteers and partners for life. As a member, you have an opportunity to have your voice heard – and to connect with special benefits, adaptive sports and social events, and special programs, including peer mentoring and volunteering opportunities.

Membership is free for eligible Veterans

Membership is free and open to qualified individuals. Any individual who meets the following criteria is eligible to join Paralyzed Veterans of America:

  • A citizen of the United States

  • A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces whose discharge was other than dishonorable

  • An individual who has suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of trauma or disease, which results in paralysis of more than one limb.

There are two types of Paralyzed Veterans of America members: members-at-large and chapter members. Membership at-large is associated with the National Office of Paralyzed Veterans in Washington D.C. This membership entitles you to an informative welcome package, free subscription to our monthly member magazine, Paraplegia News, and a host of other benefits.

Chapter Membership is local to any of 34 chapters nationwide and in Puerto Rico. It provides you with the opportunity to participate in special social and sports events, and to volunteer and participate in other chapter activities.
